Modules 73/74: origin and early evolution of life. They are targeted to peroxisomes after being translated by cytosolic ribosomes. The seven characteristics of life: display order (molecules in cells are not random, can recognize an organelle by the order it is in within the cell. Properties are said to be emergent, emerge from combination from other simpler interactions and processes. On their own, wouldn"t give rise to life. Must come together to be defined as a living organism. Do display many of the characteristics of life (order, reproduce, evolve). Not considered living because they cannot reproduce on their own, must use host cell to reproduce. Figure 1 in module 74.
