Govermentality and power: foucault and criminology: govermentality- art of governing. It transcends and is considerably broader than the trad understanding of gov as state-directed activity. Gov, then, encompasses wide array of techniques, within and outside of the state, intended (re)shape and (re)direct human actions: power- power, for foucault, extends beyond state. To achieve this relentlessly critical stance, cultural crims often turn to diverse sources info (eg novels and street-level obsv) as means reveal alt perspectives that might shake foundations of our taken-for-granted assumptions about crime. Field theory of criminology: field- a basic unit of social activity. Social world is divided into may fields (eg artistic, academic/ economic). Agamben: sovereignty and the state of exception: sovereign- one who holds supreme power in territory/ space. Certificate under immigration and refugee act- both foreign nationals and permanent residents may be det indef w/o charge and w/o having full access evidence against them.
