Gender influences every aspect of social life, usually on the basis of differences in access to resources and power. Men often are the beneficiaries of gender patterns. Women often need to combine their responsibilities for paid labour outside of the home and unpaid labour inside of the home. They are disproportionately responsible for household labour, emotion management, child care, and caring for older relatives in families. Jobs in industries, labour markets, and occupations are often segregated based on gender. Men are often concerned w/ jobs with higher salaries, more autonomy, benefits, and overall higher status. Women sometimes face discrimination and sexual harrasment, while facing a glass ceiling of invisible barriers that inhibit promotion in their careers.
