Religious Studies 1022A/B Chapter Notes - Chapter 7: Christian Ethics, Antinomianism, Hedonism
Document Summary
Ethics focuses on what is morally right and wrong, while christian ethics deals with the same thing from a christian perspective. The bible is the authority since christian beliefs are based in god"s revealing in scripture. God is also revealed in nature, which leads to an overlap b/w the things that god reveals supernaturally and naturally. This focuses on god"s law for believers. Whoever has the power defines what is morally right - which is often seen through political power. This view is often practiced, despite its minimal expression. The two flaws of this theory are: it doesn"t acknowledge the difference between goodness and power. You can be good without having power and vice versa. Evil tyrants are sufficient evidence to refute the this theory. Throughout history, absolute power has corrupted societies. Each individual"s own will is the standard for what is right and wrong. What is wrong for one person might be right for the other, and vice versa.
