We only describe someone as having a personality characteristic if that feature is typically displayed over time and in various situations. Each person possesses several traits, the combination of which describes their personality. Personality disorders: patterns of highly maladaptive personality traits. Acc to dsmiv personality traits are enduring patterns of perceiving, relating to, and thinking about the environment and oneself that are exhibited in a wide range of social and personal contexts. Ignores the fact that the behaviour of most of us is also modified by context. People with personality disorders have a more rigid and inflexible personality, and it is often displayed independently of context. Behaviour often seems highly inappropriate to most others.
