Erections occur when the corpus cavernosa and corpus spongiosum fill with blood. Erections may be a result of: direct physical stimulation of the genitals, stimulation of other parts of the body, erotic thoughts. Vasocongestion occurs rapidly in young men erection may occur within a few seconds of stimulation: age, intake of alcohol and fatigue may affect the speed of vasocongestion.
