Sensation - stimulus detection: our sense organs translate environmental stimuli into nerve impulses, those impulses are then sent to the brain. Perception - making (cid:498)sense(cid:499) of what our senses tell us: organizing the stimulus input and giving it meaning, perception is heavily influenced by context. Because perception is an active and creative process, the same sensory input may be perceived in different ways at different times. Synaesthesia: condition in which brain mixes up senses (ex. Sounds have colours: women are more likely to have this condition. When you hold a rose in your hand, see its colours, feel the velvety petals, and smell its aroma, these dissimilar sensory experiences fuse into your total experience of the rose. People with synaesthesia may create additional perceptions of that rose that are inconsistent with its physical properties. Such as our knowledge of what specific objects look, smell, or feel like.
