The usual form of the gene called obese causes fat cells to secrete a protein which researches have named leptin. Bulimia and anorexia are the most well-known eating disorders and occur most often among young white women. Bulimia: characterized by episodes of excessive eating followed by forced vomiting. Anorexia: fear of being fat, a distorted body image, reduced consumption of food. What theory seems to explain why thin people rarely come fat and fat people have so much trouble losing weight?
