Poliical paries are important because of the complex interrelaionships between and among paries are crucial in structuring the way poliical systems work in pracice. Party system: a relaively stale network of relaionships between paries that is structured by their number, size and ideological orientaion. Best way to difereniate between diferent types of party system is by reference to the number of paries compeing for power: duverger"s theory of one party", two party" and muli-party". Presence of paries does not guarantee the existence of party system. Major party systems found in now in modern poliics are: one party systems, two party systems, dominant party systems, muliparty systems. Dominated by two major paries that have a roughly equal prospect of winning government power. Two most prominent examples of two party systems are the uk and the us. Its key advantage is that it makes possible a system of party government characterized by stability, choice, and accountability.
