It is important to understand social media in the context of different platforms. From an anthropological perspective, it makes sense to look at the individual components of the social media networking site. Some platforms have changed functionality and develop new features. This report studies what people post and communicate through various platforms. Technologies have significantly influenced us and changed us. This gives us potential for communication in ways which we never have. Prior to these technologies, people used public broadcast media which led to no control over who was in the audience. The second form was facilitated private communication through telephone. The polarisation between public and private media changed with the internet. Most everyday communications remained in the same categories. New services were developed that took private messaging and moved it upscale by including group functions. Members can post equally often being made of networks. There is a pattern in how new forms of social media are emerging.
