Planning models: visual representations and descriptions of steps or phases in the planning process. Ultimate goal of any planning effort is to improve health outcomes. The means by which structure and organizations are given to the successful development and delivery of health promotion programs. Provide planners with direction and framework from which to build interventions that can improve the health of individuals and communities. Generalized model: simple composite of what is represented in most models. Assessing needs = process of collecting and analyzing data to determine the health needs of a population. Setting goals and objectives = what will be accomplished. Includes priority setting & identification of a priority population: developing interventions = how goals will be achieved. Evaluating results = improving quality (formative) and determining effectiveness (summative) *pre-planning = quasi step before assessing needs; not included in the model because it happens before the model is implemented.
