Document Summary

Body integrity identity disorder - (biid) - is the amputation of healthy limbs ethically. Body integrity identity disorder an extremely rare phenomenon of persons who desire the amputation of one or more healthy limbs or who desire a paralysis. These can lead to mutilation, asking surgeons for an amputation, or asking surgeons to sever their spinal cord. People with biid report have a particular limb that doesn"t belong to them, and that they feel that they feel over complete, wanting that limb amputated. In 1997, a patient"s wish was fulfilled and had his lower left leg amputated - the same surgeon also performed it 3 years later. The patients told the surgeon that their limb caused them emotional pain - when the 3rd surgery was planned it was banned. For individuals with biid, their wish stems from an obsessive need to get rid of a foreign part of their body.
