Document Summary

In many organisms, one or more pairs chromosomes are different in males than females: genes located on these chromosomes are called sex-linked genes, sex-linked genes: genes located on a sex chromosome. Autosomes: chromosomes other than sex chromosomes: genes on these chromosomes have the same patterns of inheritance in both sexes, humans have 1 sex chromosome, 22 autosomes. 11. 2a: female are xx and males are xy in both. In most species with sex chromosomes, females have two copies of x chromosome: sex chromosomes that occurs paired in female cells and single in male cells: form fully homologous pairs, males only have one. Y chromosome occurs in males but not females: has short region of homology with x chromosome. Each normal gamete produced by xx female carried an x chromosome. Half gametes produced by xy male carry x chromosomes, half carry y: when sperm cell carrying x fertilizes x egg cell, develops into xx female and xy if sperm has y.
