Document Summary
Psyc 336 - chapter 4: families: con ict at least a little con ict between teenage & parents is inevitable. Con ict increases between parents & children during early adolescence: begin to see more issue that they once viewed as legitimate for their parents to regulate as actually being matters of personal choice. Everyday issues are the most common source of con ict. However, usually very little emotional distance between parents & teens. Most teenagers feel close to parents, respect their judgement, feel loved by them, & respect them as individuals. Expecting con ict to occur may lead to self-ful lling prophecies. In reality, parents & teens have similar beliefs about core values: differ in opinions for matters of personal taste (ex. style, music, etc. ) Achieved by withdrawing love, ignoring, shaming, or guilt inducting. Cascading affects: result in enduring effects on other aspects of functioning. Include setting rules, where & whom they can go places with.
