SOC355H1 Chapter 25: ch25
Document Summary
Foster, borgatti and jones (2011) analyze the network composition and the relationships that are maintained among gatekeepers for rock music in boston. These gatekeepers act as brokers between music bands and audiences, using particular search and selection methods for their nightclub. The authors differentiated between two types of night clubs, cover clubs and original clubs. Their findings showed that their networks differed as a result to their club"s niche. The strategy used by the cover club was to perform familiar music repetitively, thus they maintained strong ties with a smaller number of bands and few relations with their competitors. On the contrary, original clubs had a broader network of bands as they sought out the hip and happening bands. To receive information regarding the bands, the talent agents kept dense connections with their competitors and there were high levels of product sharing in these networks.
