Sociological imagination: the ability to perceive the underlying societal causes of individual experiences and issues, as well as to think outside the accepted wisdom and common routines of daily life. Norms: the rules or expectations of behavior people consider acceptable in their group or society. People who do not follow these norms may be shunned, punished, or ridiculed. Norms, like values, vary from one society to another and change over time. Values: shared understanding of what a group or society deems good, right, and desirable; a way of viewing the world and attaching positive or negative sentiments. Science: the systematic study of the structure and behavior of the physical and natural world through observation and experiments. Science, from a sociological standpoint, is a communal system of organized doubt and skepticism that aims to refine theories through the collection and use of empirical data. Technology: objects developed to serve a particular (e. g. social, political, cultural, or personal) purpose.
