PSY328H1 Chapter Notes - Chapter 4: Sûreté Du Québec, Disorganized Crime, Buffer Zone
Document Summary
Profiling: this is the process of drawing inferences about a criminal"s personality, behaviour, motivation, and demographic characteristics based on crime scenes and other evidence. The techniques used for criminal profiling were developed by the fbi"s. Serial killers: these are murders who kill three or more people in separate events, with a cooling-off period between murders. Signature aspect of the crime: this is the distinctive, personal aspect of the crime that presumably reveals the personality of the killer. Organized killers: these killers are described are carefully selecting and stalking their victims and planning out what they will do to them. They will show patience and self- control by waiting for the right time to commit the crime and clean up the evidence after the murder. These killers are also more likely to use more elaborate rituals involving torturing the victim and dismembering the corpse.
