Document Summary
Implicit memories: memories we are not aware of. Procedural memory: skill memory- memory of how to do something. Walking, talking, playing the piano, riding the bicycle. Ex. tying shoelaces: difficult to explain, and difficult to articulate. When we try to think about it, it just screws up our rhythm (therefore is implicit) Having a conversation & using the rules of grammar: people often don"t even know what the grammatical rules are, they just use it automatically. People w/ inability to form new long-term memories: retains his procedural memory (clive wearing plays piano, can learn new skills, even if they can"t remember the practice leading to skill acquisition (hm became good at mirror drawing) Priming: when presentation of 1 stimulus (priming stimulus) changes response to another stimulus (test stimulus) Repetition priming: when test stimulus is similar to the priming stimulus: ex. when you"ve just read cheat in the last passage.
