Those who produce television news exert a powerful influence on our opinions simply by determining which events are given exposure and how much exposure they are given. Given the power of tv newscasts, it is reasonable to ask what factors determine which news items are selected for tv newscasts one major factor is the need to attract viewers. Television news is a form of entertainment what is nown in the news is typically based on what would be more entertaining for viewers to watch. It is more likely that riots, bombings, earthquakes, massacres and other violent acts will get more air time than stories about people working to prevent violence.
