Document Summary

Core beliefs and values define who we are as humans. Implicit attitudes influence our feelings at an unconscious level from our memory. Postdecision dissonance- holding positive attitudes about two options we look at the positives and negatives of each event and make a decision based on that. Justifying effort- studies show that when people put themselves through pain and embarrassment or discomfort to join the group they spent a great deal of dissonance. They resolve the dissonance by inflating the importance of the group and their commitment to it this justification of effort helps explain why people are willing to subject themselves to humiliating experiences such as hazing. Advertisers also use the mere exposure effect repeating the message over and over again increase persuasiveness. How do we form our impression of others: attitudes influence so many of our actions, we also try to predict how people act in charge understand why they act the way they do.
