Category of disorders involving fear or nervousness that is excessive, irrational and maladaptive. In anxiety disorders, the experience creates distress for the person and interferes with normal day activities. Frequently elevated levels of anxiety, generally from normal challenges and stresses of everyday life. Try to control situations and attend to every detail so that nothing goes wrong. Anxiety disorder marked by episodes of sudden, very intense fear. Anxiety occurs in short sequences but very severe. Agoraphobia: results from an intense fear of having a panic attack in public. Because of this fear, people avoid public settings and isolate themselves. Social anxiety disorder: strong fear of being judged by others or being embarrassed or humiliated in public. People with social anxiety avoid social situations because they feel awkward and insecure they become less confident about their ability to socially interact makes them less likely to make contact in the future.
