Monday: blood and immunity introductory textbook reading: 7th ed. Lymphocyte, monocyte (--> macrophage), neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils(mast cell) Basophil, eosinophil, neutrophil: granulocyte lymphocyte : immunocyte. From pluripotent hematopoietic stem cell: found in bone marrow. Uncommitted stem cells progenitor cells. Blood cells are produced in the bone marrow. Cytokines : peptide of proteins released from one cell that affect the growth or activity of another cell. Interleukins (il-3): immune system colony -stimulating factors regulate leukopoiesis. Csf cytokines regulate leukopoiesis (leukocyte production and development ) Csf induce cell division and cell maturation. Tpo: a glycoprotein that regulates the growth and maturation of megakaryocyte. Rbc production controlled by erythropoietin, which is made in the kidneys of adults. Stimulus for epo synthesis: hypoxia: low oxygen level. Hypoxia stimulates production of tf hypoxia-inducible factor 1 hif1 ()it runes on. Ratio of rbc to plasma is indicated by hematocrit.
