Psychological and physical consequences children develop short and long-term problems; adults have high levels of stress and fear that impairs their functioning; can have stds or even pregnancy. Ptsd: avoidance of stimuli, reoccurring distressing memories, negatively altered cognition and mood, altered state of arousal and reactivity, mainly occurs right after the rape but can persist for years, treatment programs available. Myths corrected: sexual assault is very common. Rapist sexually assaults victims over 16 years of age.
