In clinical neuropsych, brain fxn is evaluated by objectively testing memory & thinking skills. Very detailed assessment of abilities is done, and the pattern of str and weaknesses is used in important health care areas, such as diagnosis and treatment planning. To understand what prob patients may have in everyday life, which helps to guide planning for assistance or treatment. Studies have shown that scores on specific tests relate to everyday fxnal skills, such as managing money, driving, or readiness to return to work. Each neuropsychological test or procedure evaluates one or more of the following categories: Dmg to reticular activating sys can produce drowsiness, stupor or coma. Ea was oriented to person, time, place, and situ. Coordinates muscle tone, posture, and hand & eye movements. Collection of nuclei in fore brain involved in control of motor movements. Amygdala= integrating memories fr diff modalities, especially in consolidating memories w/ strong emotional meaning.
