Assess use of semantic associations as strat for learning words. Diff in norm samples b/w tests preclude interchangeability of standard score equivalents of raw scores. Different item categories having higher familiarity than those of original form. Four categories (no more shopping lists as in original) List a: vegetables, animals, musical instruments and parts of buildings. Optional forced choice recognition measure obtained approx 10-15 min after yes/no recognition trial. Forced choice with unrelated items easier than yes/no, added to detect motivation lapses. Disadvantages of examination of use of strategies (there are advantages) Expected to recognize after few trials, and use cat to facilitate recall: performance is measure of interaction b/w verbal memory and conceptual ability, confounding effects of concept apprehension and conceptual organization. Advantages: assessing how well patient uses learning strats based on concept formation. Words read at rate slightly slower than one per second.
