Document Summary
Emotions can be hard to define; it"s like knowing what something is but finding the proper definition is difficult. We will need a good theory to help us define it: the first use of the word emotion 1570s france, esmotion = to set in motion, move the feelings. Excessive emotions disrupt qi" and impair internal organs. Too much anger = qi moves upwards, and impairs liver, causes headaches. Too much joy = relaxes qi impairs the heart and results in weakness. Tai chi, meditation allows for one to control emotions, not let emotions take over. Emotions are thought to be passive, we must control it. Battle scene: the faces are emotionless, portraying emotion not through facial expressions but posture and gestures. Lion: emotion was portrayed on the lion"s face . It was not deemed socially appropriate to show emotions facially, the upper class. Rather they express it through other things like posture and touch but not on face.
