A society is a group of people who live in a particular place at a particular time. First, we might note a distrust of emotions. The distrust was brought into the modern era by darwin (1872), who implied that, in human adults, expressions of emotions are obsolete, vestiges of our evolution from our hominid predecessors and of our development from infancy. We in thewest are not, however, very consistent, because we also think emotions are the very guarantee of authenticity, our best guide to our t(cid:396)ue sel(cid:448)es.
