Most people would know about freud, however apa does not regard his findings as valid especially those who are empiricists (ignored by mainstream psychologists). Freud did not use controlled experimentation and worked off of impressions. Must connect theory to behavioural data however, freud built an elaborate theory on case study and introspection. There are many divisions in psychology that have a specific specialty area. Implications of diversity: there are several theories, not just one grand theory that unifies all perspectives, evolutionary psychologists have been working for more coherence in the field of psychology. Not defined by subject matter or experimental apparatus. 3 interrelated aspects of science: systematic empiricism, production of public knowledge and, examination of solvable problems.
