The reliability of personality disorder diagnoses has improved because of two developments: the publication of specific diagnostic criteria, the development of structured interviews specially designed for assessing personality disorder. Interviews with people who know the patient well are sometimes part of the diagnostic workup and improve the accuracy of diagnosis. Anti-social personality disorder has a high test-retest reliability, indicating that it is a stable diagnosis. Schizotypal and dependent personality disorders are very low, indicating that the symptoms of people with such diagnoses are not stable over time. Durbin and klein assessed the stability of pds in patients with mood disorders and found that the 10-year stability of categorical diagnoses was relatively poor. Stability coefficients were greater when a dimensional view of personality disorder was used and short time intervals were employed.
