Document Summary

Chapter 4: social cognition: thinking about people and situations. Decisions are easier when we can predict the future. We can best predict the future by making sound inferences. When we are designing better ways to make judgments and decisions, we have to understand which errors people typically make. Aspects of social judgment: quality of information, the way info is presented, bias in info-seeking strategies, expectations/ pre-existing knowledge, intuition/reason. Primacy effect the disproportionate influence on judgment by information presented first in a body of evidence o info presented first has the most impact. Recency effect the disproportionate influence on judgment by information presented last in a body of evidence o info presented last has the most impact. Framing effect the influence on judgment resulting from the way information is presented, such as the order of presentation or how it is worded. Spin framing emphasising a competitive edge and not others.
