Document Summary
10. 1 development from conception though infancy: developmental psychology: is the study of human physical, cognitive, social and behavioural characteristics across the lifespan. Patterns of development: stages and continuity: psychologists often describe patterns of change as a series of stages. Zygotes to infants: from one cell to billions. Fertilization and gestation: zygote: the initial cell formed when the nuclear of egg and sperm fuse, germinal stage (0-2 weeks): the phase of prenatal development, which spans from conception to two weeks. Zygote begins to divide into multiple cells forming a ball of cells called a blastocyst. Blastocyst migrates from the fallopian tubes towards the uterus and and becomes implanted in the lining of the uterus. The blastocyst splits into two groups: inner group=fetus and outer group of cells=placenta (provides oxygen and nutrients to fetus) Stage in which basic cell laters become differentiated.
