Behaviors are influenced by genes just as physical characteristics are. Genetic code located in nucleus of human body cells. Dna - contains four nucleotides: adenine, cytosine, guanine, thymine (actg) Each gene is unique combo of the four nucleotides e. g agctagcaatg. Genotype - the genetic makeup of an organism - the unique set of genes comprising the individual"s genetic code. This sequence - > the code to used to create proteins. Genes specify what types of molecules to produce and when. The result of the genetic code is the individual"s phenotype. Phenotype = the physical traits / behaviors that show genetic variation e. g. eye color, personality. Chromosomes are within the nucleus lined w/all of the genes an individual inherits. Humans have 23 pairs of chromosomes , half from mom, half from dad. Down syndrome - > extra chromosome on 21st pair (trisomy 21) If two chromosomes in a pair are the same - > homozygous.
