PSYA01H3 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6.2: Operant Conditioning Chamber, Reinforcement, Operant Conditioning
Document Summary
A type of learning in which behaviour is influenced by consequences. Operant the individual operates on the environment before consequences can occur. Reflexive responses it does not require a reward. A response and a consequence are required for learning to take place. Process in which an event or reward that follows a response increases the likelihood of that response occurring again. Thorndike proposed the law of effect the idea that responses followed by satisfaction will occur gagin and those are not followed by satisfaction become less likely. E. g. the cat escaping from the puzzle box. Operant chamber laboratory apparatus for studying operant conditioning. E. g. the rate can press the level to receive a reinforcer such as food or water. A stimulus that is contingent upon a response, and that increases the probability of that response occurring again. E. g. reinforcer would be a stimulus like food.
