High level of self-awareness, ability to understand others, basic knowledge of complexity of communication process itself, ability to think critically. Social literacy: engaging and challenging other people. Business literacy: focusing and mobilizing your organization. Cultural literacy: valuing and leveraging cultural differences. All abilities founded on ability to observe and analyze social realities with which we interact and are a part of. Assumes that one person can transmit information without distortion or personal interpretation. Model ignores effects of distortion on information transfer or multiple possible interpretations receiver might apply to message. People interpret things differently (different cultures); even those from the same culture might interpret it differently. Model doesn"t account for power of non-verbal communication. Model no longer useful in how communication occurs.
