Persuasion is the process of influencing, changing, or reinforcing listeners" ideas, attitudes, beliefs, or behaviours. In a persuasive speech, you act as an advocate, a person who argues on behalf of an idea or cause. Persuasive speeches must contain background information before it can make its case. Basic difference between persuasive and informative is that persuasive speeches are aimed at winning audience assent and informative is aimed at reporting. Thee key goals in persuasive speaking are: win over your listeners. Objective is to convince your audience to adopt your view: know your subject thoroughly. You will have little chance or persuading listeners if you are not perceived as knowledgeable and competent with regard to your topic. Develop as much expertise as possible by doing careful, extensive research: maintain a high standard of ethical behaviour. Avoid any degree of manipulation and deceit. Use supports that are accurate and truthful, and don"t exaggerate or us half-truths.
