Document Summary

About 100 of the species will extinct every thousand years. Large vertebrates tend to extinct more than small ones. Major cause: global warming, vegetation/forest is removed, makes it harder for them to survive. Biodiversity: there is variability among species, diversity in ecosystem. Allows us to learn from different species (how species do things strategies) e. g. spiders and their webs. Ecology- scientific study of interactions between organisms and their environment. Environmental science- incorporates concepts from natural sciences (including ecology), focuses on solutions to environmental problems. Each species have a distinct role to play in maintaining the balance. Most species interact indirectly through resources. e. g. bird and moose in grassland interacting indirectly. Moves through ecosystems in single direction only, can"t be recycled. Nutrients- continuously recycled from the environment to organisms, can be recycled. Community- combination of species living in the same area at the same time.
