BIOB10H3 Chapter Notes -Aldehyde, Hydroxy Group
Document Summary
Unicellular : consists of one cell that carries out all the functions of life. Multicellular : made up of a number of cells that are specialized for different functions. Species : group of organisms that look alike and can breed successfully with each other. Genome : sum of all dna molecules in the cell. Dna : long strands of 4 different subunits called nucleotides. Proteins : molecules that govern the chemical reaction within cells. Genome : all the genes in a complete haploid set of chromosomes. Nutrients : organisms get them from the ground, they supply energy. All organisms are related through a common ancestor. Prokaryotes : prokaryotic cell structure consists of dna and other biochemicals enclosed in a membrane. Metabolism : the sum total of all the chemical reactions that go on inside a cell constitutes the cell"s metabolism. Eukaryotes : cell structure consisting of specialized cellular functions, such as the nucleus which contained the cell"s genetic information.
