Our most intense emotional experiences are bound up with her families. Nuclear family: consist of cohabiting man and woman who maintain a socially approved sexual relationship and have at least one child. Traditional nuclear family: a nuclear family in which the husband works outside the home for money and the wife works without pay in the home. In the 1940s and 1950s, many sociologists and much of the canadian public considered the traditional nuclear family to be the most widespread ideal family form. New family forms, including single-parent families, common-law families, and gay and lesbian families, have been increasingly prevailing in recent decades. Some sociologists, many of them functionalist, viewed the decreasing prevalence of the married-couple family and the rising of the working mother as an unmitigated disaster. Polygamy: expands a nuclear family horizontally by adding one or more spouse to the household.
