Experimentation is the method used by scientists to study causation. If a different group of subjects is tested under each condition it is called between-subjects design. If it is the same group of subjects tested under each condition it is called within-subject designs. Confounded variables: unintended variable that may have caused the difference in the dependent variable in the conditions; often lead to observed effects that are wrong, or not due to the variable intended.
