Motivation relates to the study of processes involved in goal-directed behavior, and our goal-directed behavior is often associated with specific emotions. Motives are the needs, wants, interests, and desires that propel people in certain directions- propel us to achieve certain goals. Motivation to achieve relevant goals can be an important determinant of adjustment. Many theories view motivational forces in terms of drives- the drive concept appears in a diverse array of theories that otherwise have little in common (e. g. psychoanalytic and behaviorist theories) This approach of understanding motivation was explored at most by clark hull. Drive theorists apply the process of homeostasis, a state of physiological equilibrium or stability, to behavior. According to drive theorists when individuals experience a drive, they"re motivated to pursue actions that will lead to drive reduction. However, homeostasis appears to be irrelevant to some human motives, such as thirst for knowledge and the instances in which you"ve eaten when you aren"t the least bit hungry.
