Business people are involved in unethical behaviour. Those who have broken the law need to be punished accordingly. Laws do not make people honest, reliable or truthful. Danger in making new laws is that people may think that any behaviour that is within the law is also acceptable. A society gets in trouble when people consider only what is illegal and not also what is unethical. Ethical and legality are two different things. Ethical behaviour requires more than that, reflects people"s proper relations with one another. Legality is narrower, refers to laws we have written to protect ourselves from fraud, theft, and violence. Many immoral and unethical acts fall well within our laws. Example: gossiping about your neighbour or sharing something told to you in confidence is unethical but not illegal. Ethics: standards of moral behaviour that is accepted by society as right versus wrong.
