Document Summary

The bay of fundy separates the provinces of nova scotia and new brunswick, just touching the u. s. state of maine. The name fundy came from portuguese explorers; called deep river rio fundo. The tidal bore is a phenomenon where when the tide comes in, ocean water rushes in, against the outgoing freshwater flow, up the length of the constricted bay. This results in a large difference between high and low tide. In the case of tidal power, a sluice like a dam with movable openings is constructed across a narrow part of the water body. Our global economy is largely powered by fossil fuels: 80& of the world"s energy comes from oil, coal and natural gas and these three fuels generate 2/3 of the world"s electricity. Three alternative energy sources that are widely used are; hydro-electric power, nuclear power and energy derived from biomass they"re conventional alternatives to fossil fuels.
