CCT286H5 Chapter Notes - Chapter 6: Web Navigation, Ho People
Document Summary
Week 5 - krug chapter 6: street signs and breadcrumbs. People will not use your website if they cannot find their way around it. Think of navigation as finding your item at a hardware store. You would search from a broad category down to the tool you are looking for. In many ways, you go through the same process when you enter a website. You decide whether to ask first or browse first (using the search box) If you choose to browse, you make your way through a hierarchy using signs to guide you. Looking around on the home page for a list of the site"s main sections. Eventually, if you can"t find what you"re looking for, you"ll leave. The web experience is missing many of the cues we"ve relied on all our lives to negotiate spaces. We tend to not think or realize the scale of a site (no of pages etc. )
