Murdoch experiment subject begin recall immediately after hearing list of words illustrates primacy effect, recency effect. Rundus experiment solid red line is usually serial position curve dashed blue line indicate how many times subjects rehearsed out loud each word on the list, note the rehearsal curve matches initial part of serial position curve. List is presented and subject repeats words out loud in 5 second intervals between words, illustrates words at beginning of list are repeated more so they are more likely to get into ltm. Subjects begin recall after counting background illustrates recency effect eliminated because rehearsal prevented. Recency effect explanation is that most recently presented words are still in stm therefore are easy for subjects to remember, words presented last in a list eg most recent.
