Document Summary

It is a concept and not a thing. People assign the term intelligence to the qualities that enable success in their own time and in their own culture. Intelligence: is the ability to learn from experience, solve problems, and use knowledge to adapt to new situations. Intelligence test: assesses peoples mental abilities and compares then with others, using numerical scores. Charles spearman believed we have one general intelligence: (g) a general intelligence factor that underlies specific mental abilities and is therefore measured by ever task on an intelligence test: believed by binet and charles spearman. Factor analysis: a statistical procedure that identifies clusters of relatable items (called factors) on a test; used to identify different dimensions of performance that underlies a persons total score. Specific abilities: intelligence tests sample mental ability that are relatively independent. Savant syndrome: a condition in which a person otherwise limited in mental ability has an exceptional specific skill, such as in computation or drawing.
