Children exposed to drugs during pregnancy have a higher risk of premature birth, being underweight or being stillborn. A child born to a mother who uses drugs during pregnancy is already addicted to the drug. In a study conducted between 2012 2013 found that between 55 percent and 94 percent develop withdrawal signs and 30 80 percent need pharmacologic treatment. (newman 2016).
