*inferences about means are made by analyzing variance. Analysis of variance (anova)- -more than 2 multiple t-test=> anova mini t tests. Used to compare group means when t-tests are not appropriate and it tests general rather than specific differences among means end finding: added sample to compare. Still difference between multiple sample means is significant -but does not tell exactly which is the best. In a group there is significance but does not know where it lies. Important to understand the test in order to understand research reports. Anova types: reason for anova is to find whether data from several groups have a common mean. One-way anova - 1 dependent group & 1 independent variable dealing with 1 factor. Used for comparing means of 3 or more independent groups. Involves finding deviations of scores from the group means and overall grand mean. Two-way anova - 2 dependent group given 2 categories of defining characteristics 2 factors.
