Qualitative research: refers to the meaning, concepts, definitions, characteristics, metaphors, symbols, descriptions of things. Usefulness: some experiences cannot be meaningfully expressed in numbers. Quantitative research: counts and measures of things, extents and distributions. 1: focus groups, ethnography, sociometry, unobtrusive measures, historiography, case studies. Research methods are inherently theoretical and rely on base assumptions. A form of multiple operationalism or convergent validation. The use of multiple data collecting technologies, multiples theories, multiple researchers, multiple methodologies or or a combinations.
