Document Summary

Culture has some obvious physical effects: possible health effects for some cultural practices. Infractions, chronic pain, etc: neck stretching, feet binding, piercing - more obvious physical effects of culture. Run an animal to death (persistence hunting) Foot gets more narrow (particularly around toes, they get pushed together) Running shoes are a very new invention. Some say you should stop wearing shoes to strengthen your arch again (proved to be a bad idea: people run differently with modern shoes on, shoes give you a different stride. Shoes make you rely more on the heel than the front of the foot. Modern shoes might actually be increasing running-related injuries because it puts pressure on different parts of our bodies that we weren"t designed to have. Animals never pull muscles, humans do it all the time. Injuries actually increase when they switch to minimalist shoes because our bodies aren"t used to: barefoot running. No studies to show barefoot running decreases injuries.
