PSYC 307 Chapter 3: Chapter 3 - Cultural Evolution
Document Summary
Where does cultural variation come from: been considered from a variety of different disciplines outside of psych. Immediately apparent that cultures around the world vary in their practices, social structures, diets, economic systems, tech, religious beliefs, and psychology. Ex: different foraging behaviours don"t just effect what people eat, but it can also affect how the societies are structured and what the people value. Cultures that are largely dependent on hunting for food hold a higher value for masculinity than cultures who don"t (hunting is dangerous, only brave and skilled men can do it) Ex: all the different types of animals and plants in eurasia led to. Western agriculture which spread east and west really rapidly because of the fertile crescent . This led to agriculture production being so easy and less time consuming, people had more time to do other things like invent new tools and artifacts. People from around the world prefer mates who are more physically attractive.
